David Cutcliffe was born September 16, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama. Born and raised in Alabama, David Cutcliffe started his football career at Banks High School. He then attended the University of Alabama where he worked as a student assistant on Bear Bryant’s coaching staff.
David Cutcliffe returned to Banks High School to start his coaching career where he was hired as an assistant coach and then later was named head coach. In 1982 he was named a part time coach for the University of Tennessee. Less than a decade later, David Cutcliffe was coaching the quarterbacks as position that he is now known for. In 1998, David Cutcliffe was named the head coach for Ole Miss where he recruited and groomed Eli Manning son of Archie Manning. After leaving Ole Miss, David Cutcliffe went to Notre Dame where he had to take time off due to his health. David Cutcliffe worked at other schools.
In December of 2007, David Cutcliffe was hired as the head coach for Duke University. David Cutcliffe immediately came in and began making changes early including a challenge to the Duke Football roster to collectively lose 1,000 pounds. David Cutcliffe is still the Duke Head Coach and is making changes that Duke football fans hope will improve the team for the long-run.
