Wake Forest University may be one of the lesser known schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and this is partly due to its tiny size. Only 4,300 undergrads attend Wake Forest University, which is located in Winston-Salem in North Carolina. In spite of the small student body, Wake Forest University still manages to pull off 26 athletic sports, nearly double the amount provided by the Miami Hurricanes, a much larger ACC school. The Wake Forest Deacons are led by a "Demon Deacon" mascot, an odd combination of religious terms that dates back to the school's Baptist association until the 1920s. School colors are a traditional gold and black and football games are especially crowded to witness games against rivals like the Virginia Tech Hokies and University of Maryland Terrapins. Home games are held at the BB&T Field on Wake Forest University's Deacon Boulevard. Two massive sets of bleachers flank the field and a hill on one end provides casual seating for thousands. It cost the school roughly $4 million to build the stadium in 1967 and it is a great venue for college football games, especially after a series of recent updates.
