Miami Hurricanes player rushing the ball

After its establishment in 1925, the University of Miami quickly worked to assemble a varsity sports roster that now offers 15 teams, slightly fewer than other school sports offerings at fellow Atlantic Coast Conference universities.  Although the sports offered may be slim, the Miami Hurricanes channel most of their energy into the football program.

Two Miami Hurricanes football players captured the Heisman Trophy.  In 1986, Vinny Testaverde won the award and Gino Torretta did the same in 1992.  The Miami Hurricanes work hard to draw the crowd into all games.  After a home touchdown, the Touchdown Tommy cannon booms.  Before each 4th quarter, the Miami Hurricanes players and coaches hold up 4 fingers to focus energy in the final moments of the game where most are won or lost.

The Miami Hurricanes' mascot is Sebastian the Ibis, a bird known for its bravery in the face of a hurricane.  School colors are orange and green and the biggest rivals are the Florida State Seminoles.
