Duke University was founded in 1838 in Trinity, North Carolina and moved to Durham in 1892. The athletics department was established shortly after this move and the Duke Blue Devils football team was one of the first sports offered at the university. It wasn't until 1938 that the Duke Blue Devils football team truly rose to prominence under nationally respected coach Wallace Wade. The team did not allow a single point against them throughout the entire season, earning the title of the "Iron Dukes".
A Blue Devil mascot is found on the sidelines of home Duke Blue Devils football games. Fittingly, the mascot wears blue and white--Duke University school colors. Home games are held in the Wallace Wade Stadium which holds nearly 34,000 spectators. Most home games are held between the Duke Blue Devils and other teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference, like the Clemson Tigers or the Miami Hurricanes.
